BREAKING NEWS! Glendower Golf Club, 10th February 2012

Haydn Porteous, shares his emotion with fellow SCHOOL student, Musi Nethunzwi, seconds after clinching the SA Amateur Stroke Play title.
GARY PLAYER SCHOOL FOR CHAMPIONS #1 player, Haydn Porteous, closed out the South African Stroke Play Championship with an even-par 72 in the final round, despite intense pressure from Italy's Andrea Bolognesi. After leading by 3 with 8 holes to play, Haydn found himself 2 behind with only 5 to play, following a disastrous double-bogey at the par-5 13th. He would have been forgiven for tearing up his victory speech at this point, but instead he dug deep to show why he is known as one of the toughest competitors in South African amateur golf by playing the last 5 holes in 2-under par.

Haydn Porteous has had 8 Top 10 finishes in 14 starts, including a win at the recently held Boland Open Amateur at Arabella. He received Springbok colors at the tender age of 16 when he was chosen to represent South Africa in the test match against Team Scotland at Leopard Creek in March.
Haydn is currently #2 on the SAGA Open Amateur ranking list and 143rd in the Royal & Ancient International Amateur rankings.
He recently won the Junior Invitational Silver Vase at Royal Johannesburg & Kensington, joining illustrious names on the trophy like Ernie Els, Charl Schwartzel & Richard Sterne. Haydn, a fantastic prospect for the future of SA golf, has chosen the Gary Player School for Champions because of its structure and holistic approach, which provides the mentorship he needs in all dimensions of game improvement.
Graham van der Merwe has had 7 Top 10 finishes in 13 starts, including his breakout win at the Western Province Open Amateur Match Play. He was also
runner up at the prestigous Northern Amateur Match Play at Rand Park in March, ehere he defeated Springbok captain, Ryan Dreyer on his way to the final.
Graham is currently #5 on the SAGA Open Amateur ranking list and 80th in the Royal & Ancient International Amateur rankings.
Graham captained the Central Gauteng Under-23 Inter Provincial team to a whitewash victory at Goose Valley.
However, according to Graham, with stars like Haydn in his team, he just had to tell them to "go out and play"!
